Collaborative learning becomes an extraordinarily natural experience with the SMART Board™ 800 series interactive whiteboard. Two people can instantly work together anywhere on the surface at the same time using either their fingers or a pen. This interactive whiteboard also features a multiuser Pen Tray with buttons that make it easy for users to switch ink color, right-mouse click and bring up the On-Screen Keyboard.
Feature availability: The SMART Board 800 series interactive whiteboard supports multiuser writing and common multitouch gestures currently recognized in Microsoft Windows 7 and Mac Snow Leopard operating systems. SMART Notebook collaborative learning software will support certain features, such as freestyle interaction, touch gestures and full object awareness, upon the release of updated software (SMART Notebook 10.7 software), expected by March 2011.

Teachers can increase the opportunities for classroom collaboration, thanks to the multitouch capabilities of the new 800 series. Two people can use their fingers or a pen to write, draw and interact with content on the surface of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard. There are no special tools or menus required – students can simply walk up to the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and immediately begin working together.

With freestyle interaction, two students can work together anywhere on the surface without being restricted to a defined space or required to use a specific tool. And each student can perform different actions at the same time. For example, one student can move objects around while the other writes in digital ink.

Using touch gestures*, students can interact with lesson content in new and exciting ways, which gives them a deeper, more interactive learning experience. Students can use simple, intuitive gestures, such as toss, rotate and zoom, or use the navigational gestures available with multitouch operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows 7 or Mac Snow Leopard.
The object awareness feature makes using the 800 series a completely intuitive experience – the technology is virtually invisible. You can switch seamlessly from writing with a pen, erasing with the palm of your hand and moving objects with your finger. There's no need to press buttons, access on-screen menus or replace tools in the Pen Tray.

Access to a rich collection of learning resources Teachers can access free, ready-to-use educational resources, including thousands of standards-correlated SMART Notebook lesson activities, anytime on the SMART Exchange website. With the release of SMART Notebook 10.7 software, added functionality will become available for SMART Notebook lesson activities, however material created using version 10.6 will also be enhanced by the new features of the 800 series.
*Feature will be supported upon release of SMART Notebook 10.7 software, expected by March 2011.
Two users can simultaneously write, perform mouse functions, erase, and manipulate and move objects on the interactive whiteboard surface – no special tools are required.
The system enables two users to instantly start working together without having to switch into a separate multiuser mode or work in a confined area. And each user can individually complete actions, like writing in digital ink or moving objects with their fingers.
The 800 series uses DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology to identify when a user switches between a finger, pen and eraser. A user can also write with a pen, erase with a palm and move objects with a finger, without having to press buttons, access on-screen menus or replace tools in the Pen Tray.
Use simple, intuitive hand and finger gestures to toss, rotate or zoom in on objects and interact within SMART Notebook software. The 800 series has built-in support for Windows 7 and Snow Leopard.
Pick up one of the pens or the eraser and the Pen Tray automatically detects which tool you've selected. Buttons on the Pen Tray select the color and activate the On-Screen Keyboard, right-click and help functions.
The Pen Tray includes two wings on the side that allow you to add accessories, such as SMART projector controls.
Hold down a pen color button on the Pen Tray until the light flashes, and the lockable pen option will lock the interactive whiteboard into pen mode, so you can use any device and it will act as a pen. Early education students and students with special needs can use objects, such as tennis balls, to write on the surface.
Discover a responsive and accurate writing experience with SMART Ink. It smoothes out the appearance of the digital ink, which improves the legibility of your handwriting as you write over applications, websites and videos. The ink becomes an object that you can move and manipulate.
Capture your work to SMART Notebook collaborative learning software as a screen shot that you can edit, or save your notes directly into several software applications, including Microsoft Windows versions of PowerPoint, Word and Excel, as well as AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat.
The 800 series has a low-gloss surface that is optimized for projection. The surface is compatible with dry-erase markers and is easily cleaned.
